This is a photo of the parade and some of the festivities that took place in Bangor when Germany surrendered at the end of WWI.  Miller's Hardware and Opera House are to the right of the picture.  Norton's cigar store is the little building squashed between the two larger buildings to the left of the photo.  This event in 1918 was probably a portion of the biggest party ever to be held in Bangor.  Practically everyone in town came downtown to celebrate.  Fortunately for us, it was very well documented.  The Advance gave a great write-up of the celebration.  Several photos were taken of the huge parade that trekked through town.  It started from Center Street, moved west, turned around at the town hall and moved back through town and ended up at the ball park on Pine Street.  You can witness the party in our up coming book.
