Captain Thompson of South Haven's Troop A, 1st Michigan Cavalry came to Bangor's city ballpark for a drilling exercise in May of 1917. He was ordered to recruit 105 men for service. The troop was eventually shipped overseas to Europe where Captain Thompson was killed in action. |
