D. W. Hammond came to Bangor when he was only 7 years old.  He learned the trade of a butcher and started his own meat market in town.  Hammond's Market was a prominent business that lasted for nearly four decades.  In the early 1880's he built a store just to the east of the Bangor Elevator.  Mr. Hammond also owned two ice houses and supplied the community and refrigerated railroad cars with ice.  He was married, but it is not known if he had children.  We need to know what happened to the Hammond family.

We have located some family members of D. W. Hammond.
